Hearing you praise the Juice sections is pretty silly. Ratchet gets chased like three times in tiny rooms where you just shoot the food container and run for the switch. It's extremely simplistic and feels like some developer gave up on trying to make it interesting. I beat all these sections first try in like a minute each. Seriously... How you can call that "incredible" is beyond me. "Ever present" my ass. The sections are heavily scripted. Did we even play the same game?

Deeply flawed game, but I still enjoyed it for what it is. I don't get everyone's hype tbh but to each their own.

I love this game but the one thing that confused the hell out of me was that your ship was VERY VERY customizable but there was no moments or levels using the ship in this one. While r&b 2 had ship combat that was great

Here's something that I've learned about the N60 Storm: You can shoot it faster by rapidly tapping the fire button rather than holding it. And since R&C games rarely ever have enemy I-frames, you can kill enemies fairly quickly by doing this.

I love your passion for this series and dedication to the channel. Ratchet and Clank is also one of my top three favorite gaming IP. 💙

One issue in Thieves in time imo is that the jobs didn’t feel connected and co-ordinated like in 2 and 3. You could choose which to go with first from a bigger batch then have the slide show to see where to go next and sometimes see how previous jobs will affect the new ones. Instead you are given one or two that made it feel more linear. The hubs now not being used as much for jobs is a good point.

The funniest thing about mySims on the wii was how f'ing loud my wii used to get whenever I played it, just to build my stupid non-euclidean bathtubs and whatnot

54:30 if by interesting move, you mean actually pretty scummy when you actually think about it… Honestly, this was kind of the reason I wasn’t super bothered by the break up in sly 4. (but it also bothers me that this decision is never really called out. Like she gets super pissy over slightly having lied about having amnesia, but the story never points out the fact that she also did something pretty messed up.)

Size Matters genuinely wasn’t that bad & is made easier by the VITA where you can set the camera to the right stick. Sure the weapons can be awful (and some downright useless) but they gotta pad out the game somehow since it’s half the size of a full-length Ratchet game. So it highly encourages you to revisit older planets & just grind out levelling up your weapons. I don’t understand the “scarcity of bolts” argument as i’ve always been genuinely fine with it, never ran outta bolts…but maybe most reviewers aren’t replaying older levels & are therefore running into huge “issues” with the game because they’re trying to rush through it. It certainly isn’t one of my favourite Ratchet games but it’s a pretty solid game for me, I love the armor sets, the weapons look & are cool (just wish the Suck Cannon & Concussion Gun as well as the Incinerator were actually useful) especially when you max them out. I played it for the first time 2 weeks ago & i’ve beaten the game, it’s a bit annoying that you have to use specific weapons to beat specific bosses but all in all, solid Ratchet game. If the original 3 were 9/10’s at the very least, Size Matters gets a 7 & i haven’t even started Challenge Mode yet.

As someone who hasn’t played a single Ratchet and Clank game, this is an incredibly good and entertaining series of videos. I appreciate that you always try to keep perspective (even while putting in your own takes) and explore the development with respect for the people at the studio.

This is my first rachet and clank game I played and beaten multiple times.

Again and again, it seems Insomniac studios really lives up to its name.

Just finished the game without spoilers, gonna watch this retrospective to top of the experience. Overall, I enjoyed the game and the references to the old games, but it had flaws.

It’s 2024 and I can confidently say imo that GOW 2 is one of the best if not the best sequels ever made and still holds up now and deserves a remake

As much as the the remake... uh... re-imagining of Ratchet and Clank is a technical and visual improvement by a major order of magnitude, part of the appeal of Ratchet and Clank is also the story. Ratchet and Clank is supposed to be some kind of edgy satire about things in our world (over the top capitalistic greed, corporate overreach, hero worship, a galaxy wide society that enables these things), but it stopped doing that after Gladiator Arena. Not really a problem with this game specifically, however... Ratchet works because he himself is a selfish, edgy asshole who makes fun of nerds. A large part of what gets someone attached to a character is seeing them start as this flawed thing, and then joining them as they rise up to their potential over the course of one or multiple stories. It's one of the reasons why Ahsoka Tano is such a beloved character amongst Star Wars fans. That progression wasn't really well represented in the first game (although, I would argue he's still kinda selfish in the 2nd game and only truly becomes heroic, and completing his development as a character, in Gladiator. Example; Game 1 and 2 Ratchet would jump at the opportunity of fame and fortune, something Gladiator Ratchet rejected), and it would've been something that could've been improved upon when doing a remake. Instead it has been outright written away in the remake. And that's just... sad. We're treated to this character who is good and perfect from the very beginning and doesn't actually go on this journey where he learns to be a better person because... he already is a better person. Anyway, it's 2 am, I think I've made my point.

I think SomecallmeJohnny says it best when he asks "Why wasn't this an adaptation of the manga?" Because with all the references to the manga in this game, it really should have been an adaptation of the manga. Especially with this game's placement in the timeline with Samus' character. You could still make this game work if you completely rewrote the story and characters. Instead of having Samus regress as a character, you could have her be a bit bitter towards her former CO but still respecting him. You could have her berate him as a leader for not authorizing things at the right time or doing things on her own and telling Adam he's just going to have to deal with it because she's doing the right thing. And instead of having her regress in her encounter with Ridley, you could still have her show signs of fear but still have her fighting back! That has to be the worst depiction of her I've ever seen! That is just straight up not who Samus is! I can accept it in the manga where she's younger and less experienced and thought he died along with everyone else in the traumatizing event, but not here! That's how she's been THIS WHOLE TIME, SAKAMOTO! Samus is my favourite character of all time and to see her reduced like this is so fucking insulting and it makes me denounce this game all together. Sure, she's still a badass in this game... in gameplay. And sure, she's still a caring and compassionate person in this game, but that compassion comes at the cost of a lot of melodrama. And it's what makes games like Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super, Fusion, the Prime games, and Dread so close to my heart as some of my favourites in the series. They all fit so seamlessly and Samus' characterization in those games is near perfect! Hell, I'd wager her depiction of Samus in the manga is near perfect because it portrays Samus as younger and more inexperienced, but still just as loving, compassionate, and caring as she's always been with her protection of a little girl at the hands of the Space Pirates, and her relationship with her adoptive parents, the Chozo for raising her. Thank god she was reinstated as the honorable, smart, no-nonsense badass with a compassionate streak who protects the innocent and fights for those who can't defend themselves so no one suffers the same fate as her that we know and love from LITERALLY EVERY OTHER FUCKING GAME. Clearly Mercury Steam and Retro Studios understood what made Samus the amazing character she is that Sakamoto couldn't. I still very much love Samus, she's still my favourite character of all time, it's just that this has never been who Samus was. And this game is absolutely not to thank for how or why Samus became my favourite character of all time. Because this isn't Samus Aran, she's an actor playing the role of Samus Aran. I have the rest of the franchise to thank for my love of Samus Aran and her characterization. Like the Prime games, Samus Returns, and Metroid Dread. Those games were about the real Samus Aran. And no hate to Sakamoto, he still delivered on other games, but this is just not Samus Aran or Metroid. He completely missed the point of Samus Aran as a character. Which is why I near denounce this game and ignore its existence. You have to do something horribly wrong in order for me to ignore something's or your own existence! And this game doesn't exist to me. For me at least, this version of the game is not canon. This game absolutely could do with a complete rewrite. Because, again, and I can't stress this enough, THIS IS HAS NEVER BEEN HOW SAMUS ARAN WAS IN THE REST OF THE FRANCHISE BECAUSE THIS ISN'T SAMUS ARAN! Also, the whole "maternal theme" makes me so uncomfortable! Samus has never struck me as "motherly" EVER! She was caring to the Baby Metroid and the girl she saved from the Space Pirates, but that seemed more like a protective guardian (or pet owner in the Baby Metroid's case) than a parent. And she never struck me as someone longing to have or be a mother in any fucking way ever! She's never wanted that! She's always been a no nonsense bounty hunter with barely any fear to her name that wants to protect those who can't protect themselves, and someone with the universe's best interests in mind. She does it because she's got a duty and holds that duty close and strong because she loves and cares about those she's protecting. And the fact that they pushed that lying bullshit makes me SO uncomfortable.

The PS3 era of commercials has to be some of the best ever in all gaming history. You had the crazy OG baby commercials, then going into the amazing Kevin Butler ones and the Michael commercial as well. Truly some of the best out there.

Fair enough, this game really was a FF killer. Good worldbuilding, good character design, good gameplay and it even had a VA. The only reason why they never made a sequel was because the game in Japan was not appreciated and constantly take down by FF fanbase. In the west this game sold milions of copy. I really hope they would make a remake of this game before I die

I played Ty the Tasmanian tiger 1 on Nintendo Switch and it was a great game to play and I enjoyed it. I am glad this game is getting its recognition because I believe this game is underrated and also a hidden gem.

I'm so glad this video hasn't aged well. It's outdated for all the right reasons, with the "long-cancelled Dread", Prime 4 being stuck in dev hell, and even Sakamoto being so obsessive over getting Metroid right. From what I've heard, Sakamoto reserved himself to have the final say on Dread and in my opinion that game handled its story super well.

i can get why people dont like this game, but i think its one of the most fun games in the series. If i want to replay a ratchet game, i probably go to either this, rift apart or a crack in time.

I always felt bad for the monkeys in sims castaway in my head cannon you were making them slaves as they did work for you and got nothing in return, I never thought of them as pets 😅
